2-step Remedy for Holiday Busy-ness

Take a moment to breathe with me… i - n and o - u - t.

How are you feeling as we head into the thick of this holiday season?

I hope you’re having fun and taking care of yourself in the busy-ness, excited about seeing friends and family that brings cheeriness into the air!

If you are, I celebrate with you…and if not, I understand that December is not always easy for everyone.

It can be a mix of joy, pressure and expectation.

If that’s you… or someone you care about, please pass this along.

It is worth pointing out that anxiety can stem from both excitement or dread – either can be a stressor.

Jake (not real name) explained to me that he always finds this time around the holidays a bit stressful.

Actually more than a bit stressful.

The thought of spending time with people that he normally doesn’t spend a lot of time with makes him very anxious long before the visit even begins.

He dreads being with members of his family under the same roof at this time of year.

It isn’t long before all the old patterns start coming up: the jokes at someone else’s expense, the tensions that heat up with conflicting opinions, a least favourite aunt pinches a cheek like he’s 5, or an uncle pats the grown children on the head as if they’re toddlers.

One of the most effective ways to soothe any kind of anxiety is to gently bring your attention back into your body and out of the spinning thoughts in your mind.

This helps transform anxiety to calm – and it doesn’t take long.

Even less than a minute can make a difference.

Below are two quick clips from our session last month – two small, easy steps you can use anytime, anywhere. No one will even know you’re doing them.

First…

And then…
