One Swing at a Time...Gets Me On the Green
Share
You know how starting something new feels both exciting and humbling?
That’s where I found myself last week.
A few of us went golfing… and I hadn’t held a club in almost 20 years.
The only handful of lessons I ever took were 25 years ago.
When we spoke with our son later, he asked,
“How did playing golf go?”
I laughed.
“I wouldn’t exactly call it playing — but I did have a lot of fun on the course.”
This week, some of us decided to take an actual lesson.
Where to stand.
How to hold the club.
Driver, iron, pitching wedge…
Each swing felt different, new, awkward.
But each one got me closer to connecting with the ball.
And isn’t it the same with taking care of yourself?
One step.
One swing.
One breath at a time.
Waiting until you feel “ready” only keeps you stuck exactly where you are –
swinging, missing, and frustrated that nothing really changes.
Still tired. Still feeling heavy. Still longing for more ease.
So here’s your “lesson” for today:
Take a breath in through your nose.
Let the jaw and mouth relax open.
Allow the exhale to flow out of your body.
Repeat.
It may feel simple – almost too simple.
But that’s the point.
As one student said: “A simply profound gamechanger.”
One swing at a time (sometimes a few!), I’ll eventually get on the green.
One breath, one step at a time – you’ll get there; where you want to be.
Where is “there” for you?
I’d love to hear.
