The Power of Small: A Sea Slug & A Dream
Share
It was a long standing dream of mine to spot a nudibranch in a tidal pool.
If you’ve never heard of one, a nudibranch is a sea slug – there are thousands of varieties in the most vibrant colours and obscure, otherworldly shapes.
I first learned about them 30 years ago from a diving friend I worked with in Saudi Arabia.
Ever since, I’ve wanted to see one among the rocks when the tide goes out without having to snorkel or scuba dive.
Last year, in the first week of 2024 my dream came true!
On a secluded beach in Nicaragua, I not only saw one – I saw 4 different kinds.
WOO HOO!
It was a small dream come true.
And there’s a lot of power in that; there’s a lot of power in small.
In a small instant, we can place our feet flat on the ground.
In a small moment, we can check that they are shoulder or hip-width apart.
In a small minute, we can feel the ground beneath our feet.
Because it’s the small things that truly get us on our way to the changes that we want for ourselves.
It’s the baby steps, small and steady, that get us from where we are to where we want to be – not the grand declarations or the perfect plans.
One small moment.
One small step.
One small minute at a time.
